State of the Parish
Every year the President gives a State of the Union Address
to the Congress. This typically is broadcast nationally. In
it the President usually outlines where he believes the country is at that
time. Quite often he proposes a vision of where it could be and what
policies and procedures would help get it there. In that spirit,
I would like to offer what I see in our parish.
Liturgy and music are the areas that most people notice
immediately. It is the gauge used by many to determine their feelings about
the parish as a whole. We have a strong music program. with good choirs
and cantors in all of our Masses. In order to
sustain and grow the music program, there is always a need for people
to sing. Likewise, I would love to see more instruments incorporated
into worship. Some of our teens have asked to have a Liturgy more
directed to their needs. This can happen if some of our young people
will share their talents in the music ministry. I was disappointed
that many people didn’t care for
the baked bread we have used for so long. Hopefully with the
10am FREE Mass, and the daily Mass retaining this, there
are enough options for people. Environment and Art have been strong
points. If you have been blessed with talents in this area, let us
know.
In education my goal has always been to have our
parishioners so confident of their faith that they can share it with others.
It is so important that our parents work with their children at home to
make the FREE program a success. It’s crucial that you attend Mass
more than just once a month too. Our children grow in their faith
by hearing about it in class, but more fully by
living it in Liturgy. I am really pleased with the team we have
established for the Christian Initiation process (RCIA). Yet, I can
see a need to deepen that. It is so important to have sponsors and
godparents who are able to walk the journey with our
catechumens. Parish missions and opportunities for spiritual
growth are offered throughout the year. Make it a priority
to attend at least one of these each year to grow in your faith.
Our parish reaches out to the poor through Someone Cares.
We visit our homebound and those in hospitals and
nursing homes. We are active members of FAITH and, through that,
continue to make a difference in Volusia County. But so much
more is needed. I would love to see each parishioner make outreach
and service regular commitments. It shouldn’t fall on the few members
who help in the food pantry and come to FAITH meetings to represent the
Church for all of us. Our building is now over eight years old.
We have been fortunate to
have dedicated volunteers to clean each week, work on the garden areas,
and cut the grass. Yet, too often this kind of commitment wanes.
This parish belongs to each person. We should all take responsibility
for it as we would our own homes.
I am proud of you when I hear that you share the good news of
St. Clare with neighbors and visitors. Many people in Deltona don’t
know where we are. You help change that. The sign that we put
on Howland Blvd., the Yellow Pages ad, the Website, and other ways that
we advertise help people to get to the door. Then it is up to each
person to be welcoming and
hospitable. This has always been a strong point of our community.
Every person should feel confident showing others around
and letting them know of what the parish offers. Our Parish
Resource Directory helps do that. Deltona will certainly
continue to grow. Our parish will follow suit if we are a place
where people come to know the Lord and are joy-filled sharing that
with others. I have been fortunate serving you for the last 5 ½
years. My desire is to see St. Clare Catholic Community as a place
of hope for all people. I know it will get there with the grace
of God and the cooperationof each of us.

Knights of Colombus
The annual Tootsie Roll Drive conducted in March by Assisi
Council 10367,Knights of Colombus, based at St. Clare Catholic Community,
resulted in contributions of $3 692.22. Dr. Clyde Meade chaired the effort,
with Knights stationed outside participating stores in Deltona and Orange
City. After expenses, Assissi Council netted $3 692.22 and is now
preparing to donate $2,395.50 to the Duvail Home for Retarded Children,
DeLand, and $500 to the Boston Avenue
Central School, DeLand, which also serves exceptional children.
Congratulations to Fr. Fazio on the observance of your 53rd anniversary
of ordination which will be celebrated
on June 29th.
Estado de la Parroquia
Todos los años el Presidente dá un
discurso del Estado de la Union al Congreso. Esto es tipicamente
emitido nacionalmente. En ello el Presidente usualmenete delinea
donde el cree que el pais está en esos momentos. Muchas veses
el propone una vision de donde puede estar y que pólisas y procedimientos
la podria ayudar a llegar alli. Con ese mismo espiritu, yo quisiera
ofrecerles lo que yo veo en nuestra parroquia. Liturgia y música
son las areas que mas las personas notan inmediatamente, Es la medida
usada por muchos para determinar sus sentimientos sobre la parroquia como
tal. Nosotros tenemos un programa de musica sólido con buenos
coros y cantores en todas nuestras Misas. Para poder sostener y
expander el programa de música, siempre hay la necesidad de
personas que canten. Asi tambien, me gustaria ver
mas instrumentos incorporados en la adoración. Algunos
de nuestros jovenes han pedido tener una Liturgia mas dirigida a sus necesidades.
Esto puede suceder si los jovenes compartieran sus talentos en el ministerio
de musica. Me desepcioné que tantas personas no quisieran
el pan horneado que hemos estado utilizando por tanto tiempo. Confio
que con la Misa FREE de las 10am, y la Misa diaria, haya suficiente opción
para todos. Ambientalismo y Arte han sido puntos sólidos.
Si usted a sido bendecido con estos talentos , dejenos saber.
En educación mi meta siempre ha sido tener los
fieles con tanta confianza en su fe que quieran compartirla con otros.
Es bien importante que nuestros padres trabajen con sus hijos en el hogar
para hacer del programa FREE un exito. Es importante que tambien
asista a Misa más de una vez al mes. Nuestros niños crecen
en su fe escuchando esto en su clase, pero mas de lleno
viviendolo en la Liturgia. Estoy muy complacido con el equipo
que se a establecido para el proceso de (RCIA). Si embargo, puedo
ver una necesidad de solidificar eso.
Es importante tener patrocinadores y padrinos que puedan
caminar el viaje con nuestros catecumenos. Misiones Parroquiales se ofrecen
a través del año. Haga de esto una prioridad de asistir
por lo menos a una al año para crecer en su fe. Nuestra parroquia
llega hasta los pobres a través de Someone Cares. Nosotros
visitamos a los enfermos y aquellos en hospitales y asilos. Somos
miembros activos de FAITH y, a través de eso continuamos haciendo
la diferencia en el Condado de Volusia. Pero hace falta mucho mas.
Desearia que cada uno de los fieles haga caridad y servicio con compromiso
regular. Esto no debe de caer sobre unos cuantos miembros que ayudan
en la alacena de comida y vienen a las reuniones a representar la iglesia
por todos nosotros. Nuesro edificio yá tiene ocho años.
Hemos tenido la suerte de tener voluntarios dedicados a limpiar cada semana,
trabajar en la area de los jardines, y cortar la grama. Sin
embargo, muchas veses esta clase de compromiso mengua. Esta Parroquia
pertenece a cada uno de nosotros. Debemos todos tomar responsabilidad
de ella como lo hacemos con nuestra propia casa. Estoy muy
orgulloso con ustedes cuando me entero que han compartido con sus
vecinos y visitante la buena nueva de Sta. Clara. Muchas personas
en Deltona no saben donde estamos. Ustedes ayudan a cambiar eso.
El letrero que pusimos en Howland Blvd., el anuncio en
las paginas amarillas, el Web Site, y otras formas de anuncios
ayudan a las personas a llegar a nuestra puerta. Entonces despues
depende de cada uno de las personas que sean
bien acogederes y hospitalarios. Esto siempre a sido un
punto sólido en nuestra comunidad. Cada persona debe sentirse en
confianza de mostrarles nuestros alrededores y dejarles saber lo que nuestra
parroquia ofrece. Nuestrro Directorio de Recurso Parroquial ayuda
a hacer esto. Deltona va a segir creciendo. Nuestra parroquia le
seguirá si somos un sitio donde la persona puede venir a conocer
al Señor y son llenos de alegria compartiendo eso con otros.
He tenido la suerte de servirles por los últimos 5 años y
medio. Mi deceo es ver la Comunidad Católica de Sta. Clara
como un sitio de esperanza para todo el mundo. Yo sé que lo
podemos lograr con la gracia de Dios y la cooporación de cada uno
de nosotros.
